Kim McVean ("Miss Kim")
Although she has always enjoyed dance and fitness, Kim once shied away from Pilates until a friend suggested that she go with her to a class.
She was hooked immediately with all of its physical, emotional and mental benefits. It even helped with her chronic back pain and Sciatica.
Within months, Kim began seeking out an opportunity to become certified to teach Pilates herself.
More
Kim McVean is an AAAI/ISMA nationally certified Primary Aerobics and Mat Pilates instructor. She also holds another Pilates certification
as well as certifications in Healthy Lifestyle Principles, Foundations of Group Exercise, Stability Ball Training, and Interval Training
from the YMCA of the USA. In addition, she is CPR and AED certified. She is always on the look out for more opportunities to learn and
earn more certifications.
Kim has a strong fondness for dance and loves movement as a way to express oneself. She took dance classes as a child, performed on high
school dance teams and in a variety of musicals and, as a young adult, Kim studied karate. She has found Pilates to have similar mechanics
to dance and understands why it is commonly used among dancers and athletes for staying in shape. Currently, she enjoys her opportunities
to go running and to attend Pilates classes and takes F.I.T. (Fitness In Training). Kim ran her first 5k race on Mother's Day 2009 and
also ran the Gener8tion 8k Run at the Naval Yard in South Philadelphia in April 2011. She also competed in Kennett YMCA’s F.I.T. Games
in April 2011
Kim enjoys life as a stay-at-home mom, working part time as a fitness instructor and Mathematics tutor. Kim has been married to her
wonderful husband, Bill, for 11 years and has two incredible children, Scott, 7, and Dani, 5.
Kim has sincerely enjoyed sharing her love for fitness with her students and hopes to continue to do so for many years!

PILATES
-
Pilates, originally developed by Joseph Pilates in Germany in the early 1900s,
is a method of body conditioning which uses a system of strengthening and
stretching exercises with regard to symmetry and alignment.
This method treats the body as an integrated
whole rather than focusing on individual muscle groups and it concentrates on
training the mind and body to work together.
Some of the
benefits of Pilates:
Strengthens and tones muscles, creating a
stream-lined shape
Strongly focuses on increasing core strength
Unites body and mind
Improves posture
Provides flexibility
Provides balance
Reduces stress
Aims to create better coordination
Great for people of all fitness levels
Convenient, can be done any where and with no need
for equipment
Class Description:
This Pilates class will be a Mat Pilates class and
will primarily use maneuvers created by Joseph Pilates himself.
Although equipment can be used to enhance or
alter the Pilates exercises,
our students do not have
to concern themselves with any equipment other than comfortable clothes and a
Yoga/Pilates mat.
Water and a small towel are also recommended.
So, prepare to enjoy a total body workout which will
leave you feeling de-stressed, stronger and, as some of Kim's students have
told her, "a little taller"!
Requirements:
Comfortable workout attire
Recommended:
Water
Small towel
A yoga/Pilates mat
